King Pigeon of Penn Ave.
Well this post is really about something else entirely but an extraordinarily handsome pigeon stole all my attention on the way home from my bus adventure today and simply MUST be mentioned. Wow – for years now Tuxedo Pigeon of Brighton was the most magnificent pigeon Id ever seen, but today I met the father of all magnificent pigeons – King Pigeon of Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh. He walked around with a velvety robe, but the most amazing part was his neck. It was puffy and the widest I’d ever seen from which I imagine he emits a deep burbling mating call that only a King of Pigeons could make and it was smothered lavishly in the most dazzling peacock colours in a waterfall of perfect rainbow feathers. Wow! I stopped walking and just stood there admiring him, then noticed his elegant Lady Pigeon. A fine choice she was, but as I walked past he stood his ground, checked out my boots, while she flurried off hastily. King Pigeon was not about to make way for me. No. I hope to see his fine feathers again some day soon. (more…)

Halloween Theme for Sock Dreams
I’ve been slacking on the updates lately. Just been sort of unwordy lately. I totally forgot to show you the new Halloween Theme I launched for Sock Dreams the other day. Was loads of fun to work on and kept me busy for ages! I’ve also created a gorgeous Halloween Theme e-gift card (launching tomorrow), but you’ll have to send one to someone special (like yourself) if you want to see it ;)
Next I’m working on a Winter Solstice theme. Mmmmmm!
Shape Shifters
Every day things around me seem progressively less and less real and more and more dreamlike. I have moments where I just stop and stand absolutely still, forgetting completely where I was going and not caring… these moments dont frighten me anymore, and instead I’m just enjoying the curious moment where I feel like I’m suspended by belief alone that the floor below me is there, about to watch the whole circus of ‘reality’ around me peel away and realise its all an elaborate dream we’re all participating in, and at some deep down level maybe we all know it. We’re all so good at deceiving ourselves with the grandest of illusions about ourselves that everyone else can plainly see, so why not an illusion of ‘reality’ as well? (more…)
Wild Geese
You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
for a hundred miles through the desert repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves. (more…)
My Maggie Mae
I totally forgot to update with news that I GOT THE BANJO! She is so beautiful, with mother of pearl inlays and the most crazy sexy twang. I still remember the feeling I had when I first got my hands on her and was walking free down the road, in the rain towards the bus stop.
I haven’t been that excited since Christmas as a kid, it was OVERWHELMING me so much that a squeal burst out of me that sounded something like, “EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!HEE HEE HEEE!” which I couldn’t seem to stop, like some kind of deranged leprechaun. (more…)

What is thought without language?
I’m listening to the Season 2 Ep 8 show, Words by RadioLab.
It’s almost impossible to imagine a world without words. But in this hour of Radiolab, we try to do just that.
We meet a woman who taught a 27-year-old man the first words of his life, hear a firsthand account of what it feels like to have the language center of your brain wiped out by a stroke, and retrace the birth of a brand new language 30 years ago…
And this just came up:
Shakespeare often combined words to create concepts and new words that we are now so familiar with. I think that surely it must have changed the way we think about things. Opened our minds to new thoughts, ideas and even made us feel different. Possibly feel emotions from being able to look at things so closely.
Here is a list of his new words we use every day that may surprise you. They are all in his writings and he was the first to publish them: (more…)

Swipe credit cards with your smartphone
Squareup is brilliant! So handy — I would say even crucial — for flea-market vendors, Craigslist sellers, at garage sales and for other small business needs.
The tiny card reader that plugs into your smart phone via the earphone jack is free. All you pay are transaction fees (which you do anyway when you accept credit cards). There’s no contract – just pay as you go.
Everything is Sound (for Thiago)
This is a really good explanation of the idea I found so hard to describe to you. I think without the visuals its impossible to describe.

Fly Ranch, Reno NV

Fly Ranch features two geysers, one of which is dormant. The other, Fly Geyser, was accidentally formed by a water well drill that hit a geothermal source, and continuously sprays hot water. Fly Ranch is private property and does not allow visitors.

I really really really need to see this, somehow, some day.
Help Save Japan’s Dolphins!
More than 20,000 dolphins and porpoises are being slaughtered each year and their meat, containing toxic levels of mercury, is being sold as food in Japan, often times labeled as whale meat. Send a letter to President Obama, Vice President Biden and Japanese Ambassador to the United States Ichiro Fujisaki urging them to address this issue »
