iPhone Unlocked!

This is great news for iphone owners who frequently travel overseas:

engadget: iPhone unlocked: AT&T loses iPhone exclusivity
iphone unlockedThanks to the iphonesimfree team, the six-man team which has been working non-stop since launch day to be the first to break Apple’s SIM locks on the iPhone with software.

Also:
engadget: Apple’s locked iPhones the subject of new class-action suit

According to the 9-page suit, which was filed Monday in a New York Supreme Court, Kliegerman traveled to Mexico a few weeks after purchasing the phone, where he proceeded to check e-mails and make calls, blissfully unaware (or so the suit tells us) that AT&T would be charging international roaming fees for the usage. Apparently, when Mr. Kliegerman received his bill, he was shocked to discover $2,000 in the aforementioned fees. The suit argues that if he had been allowed to unlock the phone and use a foreign SIM card, the costs could have been avoided.

As a result, Mr. Kliegerman is seeking a judgement which bars Apple from selling locked iPhones, plus an order for the company to offer unlock codes to all current owners.

The Sprout Fund

Under the aegis of the Sprout Fund’s Public Art program, 31 gorgeously colourful murals have been dotted on walls and structures throughout the Allegheny County since 2003. They can even be found tucked away in neighbourhood gardens and around pokey little corners. Already there’s likely a Sprout Fund mural near where you live, work or commute. Nothing gives me more of a sense of happiness or feeling of belonging in my new home community than these murals.

"Life in Motion" by Monique Luck & Leslie Ansley. 508 Jacksonia Street, Pittsburgh

The artists who create these public artworks have not only succeeded in completing a mammoth painting job that represents all the people who live there, but they have the whole community backing them. A huge amount of commitment on the comminity’s part is required. Once they put the application in to the Sprout Fund they commit to 4-5 months of meetings before the mural is even started. The community is also polled on the type of art they feel represents their neighbourhood and then the best artist is matched to the community.

But all that commitment pays off. The community receives a grant - not money, but a mural that revitalises the area.

More murals and other public artworks are in the pipeline. The application process for community groups and artists begins early next year.

i ♥ Pittsburgh

iheartPGH.com is a guide to greatness in the city of Pittsburgh. The places and things we love the most about Pittsburgh are not always the easiest to find, so we started this little website to share all of the good stuff with people who are looking for reasons to love this city more.

I wish I’d found this site a long time ago. We missed the Beer Hike!

Overheared in Pittsburgh

Downtown Pittsburgh from Duquesne Heights on Mt WashingtonOverheardinpittsburgh.com: Pittsburgh as it is now in the words and actions of the people on the street. Voted Best Blog of 2006 by the Pittsburgh City Paper - saying that the site represents a trait of Pittsburghers being “nebby”.

Ultimate Transformer Watch

Oh my gosh Oh my gosh! The excruciating excitement I felt when I saw this picture and thought for a second I could buy one again!!!

Original Transformer Watch

The exact same watch my dad got me as a kid - I’ve tried to describe it to friends countless times and somehow felt like I never did it justice because no-one seemed that impressed. Well be impressed! I had a red one, Kenna the blue.

… my heart’s still pounding…

To celebrate the epic new Transformers Movie that is being released later this week and with a little help from mutual studio Transformers fans take a look at this mega 80’s transforming watch. The robot detaches and if almost by magic transforms into a free standing robot. You can buy newer versions of this watch now but not a patch on the retro version.

In Loving Memory of the Thunder Moon

Iron & Wine - The Sea and the Rhythm

Tonight, we’re the sea and the salty breeze
the milk from your breast is on my lips
and lovelier words from your mouth to me
when salty my sweat and fingertips

Our hands they seek the end of afternoon
My hands believe and move over you

Tonight, we’re the sea and
the rhythm there
the waves and the wind and night is black
tonight we’re the scent of your
long black hair
spread out like your breath
across my back
Your hands they move like waves over me
beneath the moon, tonight, we’re the sea
