Engadget: “Those of us working with the Roman alphabet forget how spoiled we are with our QWERTY keyboards, even if they were originally designed to slow us down. People using non-Roman characters never forget that these keyboards weren’t designed for them, and have spent decades searching for alternatives.
The latest, developed by HP Labs India, is the gesture-based keyboard, which is actually a pen tablet that uses a stroke-based system to recognize characters in non-Roman languages. It was designed specifically to deal with languages in use in the subcontinent, such as Tamil and Kannada, but has potential for other Asian languages as well. The system was designed to be rugged, and to be usable by people with no prior experience with keyboards or the Roman alphabet. HP expects to license the technology to a third-party manufacturer for commercialization.”

Space.com: “High on Mount Ararat in eastern Turkey, there is a baffling mountainside ‘anomaly’, a feature that one researcher claims may be something of biblical proportions.” Images taken by aircraft, intelligence-gathering satellites and commercial remote-sensing spacecraft are fueling an intensive study of the intriguing oddity.
The Genesis blueprint of the Ark detailed the structure as 6:1 length to width ratio (300 cubits by 50 cubits). The anomaly, as viewed by satellite, is close to that 6:1 proportion.

This is such exciting news because, weirdly, I have always known that at least one of these would be spotted in space during my lifetime.
Africa’s New Ocean
Normally new rivers, seas and mountains are born in slow motion. The Afar Triangle near the Horn of Africa is another story. A new ocean is forming there with staggering speed — at least by geological standards. Africa will eventually lose its horn.
Geologist Dereje Ayalew and his colleagues from Addis Ababa University were amazed — and frightened. They had only just stepped out of their helicopter onto the desert plains of central Ethiopia when the ground began to shake under their feet. The pilot shouted for the scientists to get back to the helicopter. And then it happened: the Earth split open. Crevices began racing toward the researchers like a zipper opening up. After a few seconds, the ground stopped moving, and after they had recovered from their shock, Ayalew and his colleagues realized they had just witnessed history. For the first time ever, human beings were able to witness the first stages in the birth of an ocean.

Geologically speaking, it won’t be long until the Red Sea floods the region. The ocean that will then be born will split Africa apart.

MyADSL.co.za: A computerised typewriter that can read minds was on display at the giant CeBIT high-tech fair, touted as a potential tool to help patients incapacitated by injury or disease to communicate again.

Prototypes of the “mental typewriter”, developed by computer scientists from Germany’s renowned Fraunhofer Institute and neurology specialists from Berlin’s Charite Hospital, made their public debut at the event.
Two subjects wearing a sort of leather swimming cap covered with a web of wires that were linked to a computer in front of them tested out the invention before CeBIT crowds. While their bodies remained perfectly still, both men imagined movements that were then played out on the screen. Without either of the men moving a muscle, the cursor on the screen began to float, letters eventually appeared and sentences formed. more…
