“Riding on a plane to go somewhere does not qualify as being an adventure. The minute you get on a plane to go somewhere, it is automatically a vacation. And the difference between vacation and an adventure, and the difference between a tourist and a traveller is an airplane. It leaves you so dead and lagged because you’re traversing the world in timespans you should not be…
A tourist is going to get the once over view of a place, to see the Eiffel Towers and Big Bens of a land, all the while eating at McDonalds and staying at the Hilton. A traveller is there to inspect the nuances of life. To me, when I’m going places, it isn’t to see the place, it’s to feel the experience, to talk with the people and to smell the air.” ~ ClickNathan
I couldn’t agree more.

And remember people… Safety First
A range of bizarre accidents including melting pyjamas and an alligator attack landed almost one million Britons in hospital last year, according to figures by the Department of Health. Volcanic eruptions, lightning strikes, rat bites and centipede stings caused some of the more unusual injuries. Some included four victims of exposure to noise, four of vibration and 40 from contact with a high-pressure jet. The most common cause of injury was falling, which resulted in 119,203 Accident and Emergency admissions. Accidents cost the National Health Service an estimated £1bn a year.

HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH:
Women’s Rights in the Fight against HIV/AIDS
“The global HIV/AIDS pandemic is taking a catastrophic toll on women and girls. The number of HIV infections among women and girls has risen in every region in recent years, and in sub-Saharan Africa, women and girls constitute nearly 60 percent of those living with HIV. In some countries, the HIV infection rates for girls are many times higher than for boys. The rising number of HIV infections among women and girls is directly related to violence against women and their unequal legal, economic, and social status.
Abuses of women’s and girls’ human rights impede their access to HIV/AIDS information and services, including testing and treatment. Those who do obtain HIV services sometimes face disclosure of their confidential HIV test results by public health officials without the women’s consent. This heightens women’s risk of being ostracized by their communities and abused by their intimate partners.
Governments around the world have done far too little to combat the entrenched, chronic abuses of women’s and girls’ human rights that put them at risk of HIV. Misguided HIV/AIDS programs and policies, such as those emphasizing abstinence until marriage, ignore the brutal realities many women and girls face. By failing to enact and effectively enforce laws on domestic violence, marital rape, women’s equal property rights, and sexual abuse of girls, and by tolerating customs and traditions that subordinate women, governments are enabling HIV/AIDS to continue claiming the lives of women and girls.”

10×10 (’ten by ten’) is an interactive exploration of the words and pictures that define the time.
“The result is an often moving, sometimes shocking, occasionally frivolous, but always fitting snapshot of our world. Every hour, 10×10 collects the 100 words and pictures that matter most on a global scale, and presents them as a single image, taken to encapsulate that moment in time. Over the course of days, months, and years, 10×10 leaves a trail of these hourly statements which, stitched together side by side, form a continuous patchwork tapestry of human life.”

Research on twins supports ‘God gene’
“Religious belief is in the genes and can literally be inherited from one’s parents, according to new research.
While environmental factors were the largest influences on children, genetic make-up played a significant part in whether people continued to believe into adulthood, it found.
The research will refuel the controversy about the existence of a so-called God gene, which has been hotly disputed by clerics and theologians.
Based on an analysis of more than 500 identical and non-identical twins, the study at Minnesota University in America set out to discover whether spirituality was the result of nature or nurture.”
