The very definition of what Chapelers call A Shiny Story!

There’s a funny little synchronicity-thing going on betwixt Chapelers where I would be thinking of a certain topic or watching/reading something interesting and out of the blue a Chapeler will post something related, either on their own site or right at Chapel.
In this case I happened to be watching Antique Roadshow on PBS and wishing we had something antique that’s valued far above what we bought it for, then this story comes to light.

Cait, I’m very glad this happened to your friend, but it was supposed to happen to me!!!

I had trouble with it as the images are too dark for me to see all the subtle differences.

“As long as your rubber duckie is in the tub anyway, it might as well do something besides just float. This soothing vibrating body massager is completely waterproof and features a strong, but quiet, motor that runs on two AA batteries.” USA Today

A disturbing repost:
Michael Jackson - for the ladies part 3“. Heres a snippet:

Michael Jackson, the worlds sexiest“…My fantasies are still there. You just want to lick him up and down like an ice cream cone. I dream of MJ like every night. Well almost. What I dream of will not be disclosed. Little children are on the web. But when I watch this guy, there is just something about him. My friends call me crazy, my family calls me Mrs. Michael Jackson … I don’t care what anyone thinks. How does Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise get these People magazine covers as Sexiest Man … the sexist man is Michael do whatever you want with me Jackson.”

movieHeavyTV screens different full-length movies every week for broadband users. Some weeks I want to watch everything, other weeks - like this week - nothing really appeals to me. They have music too.

Showing this week: Airheads, Live From Baghdad, Pacific Heights and Extreme Ops.

toiletHave you ever wondered how astronauts pee in zero-gravity? This is something I’ve wondered about for years. Thanks to grow-a-brain I can see from these close-up pictures of a space urinal how its done. Notice there are no wet-wipes. Crew members must get pretty smelly. poo!
Which brings up that other thing I’ve always wondered about …

catfishKuno the Killer Catfish - famous after death

“A giant puppy-eating silurid, has become an international star a week after its untimely death in Germany, authorities in Moenchengladbach said on Wednesday. The 1.5m-long whiskered wonder made headlines in 2001 after reportedly devouring a small dachshund that had gone for a swim in the pond at the public gardens of this western city. The rumours of his appetite and substantial girth - 35km at the last count - put him at the top of the most-wanted list of the Moenchengladbach-Rheydt Anglers Club and drew thousands of curious onlookers to the park.

But for two years, Kuno remained the one who got away. Until last Thursday when a slimy heavyweight believed to be Kuno went belly up after an enduring drought lowered the water level of the pond.” :(

The genetic study of lice is providing scientists with clues as to when humans started wearing clothes

louseThe work is based on the subtle differences between human body lice, which lay their eggs in and depend on clothing for survival, and human head lice, which do not.

The finding implies that early humans may have lived in Europe for tens of thousands of years after leaving Africa before they starting donning garments of any sort. The researchers believe that this is consistent with growing - albeit controversial - evidence that humans evolved in Africa and migrated into Europe some 100 000 years ago. Ultimately what the study implies though, is that humans started wearing clothes more recently than previously thought, a finding that contradicts the traditional image of a hairless early human clad in animal skin. The study could also prove to be fruitful in finding out why and when humans shed their body hair, something that has been puzzling experts for years. (iafrica.com)

Sally the Svelt Snakebot - Lights OnSpeleoScope - Instrument For Investigating Dense Microbial Mats Lining Convoluted Subterranean Sulfide Springs

“A joint effort between Equinox Interscience Inc., and exobiologist Dr. Penelope Boston, the SpeleoScope Project is designing, building, and testing an instrument for use in caves and other inaccessible environments. The SpeleoScope will provide valuable information about living forms in non-typical environments, generally considered hostile to life, a goal of NASA’s Astrobiology program. The proposed instrument will specifically address the issue of accessing and making measurements in these aqueous micropassages in Earth caves with the goal of later modifying the instrument for non-aqueous Earth micropassages and for Mars.”

snake robotSnakebot - the perfect spy
‘British scientists have devised a snake-like robot spy, which uses Darwin’s principle of evolution to keep moving even if it gets damaged by hostile fire. The “snakebot”, still only a lab prototype, is designed to be dropped out of helicopters and creep around a battlefield, using optical, audio and other sensors to build up a picture of enemy activity.

But the smartest part of the device is the software, which takes a “survival of the fittest” approach to produce a system that continually evolves to improve itself.

The designers tested the programme by disabling some of the robot’s segments to see if it could adapt to injury. Initially, the snake was immobilised but eventually its “brain” worked out how to move again, and arrived at its destination.’

The research is being funded by BAE Systems.
