The Shanghai Maglev Train project - although way more costly than anticipated - is finally reaching the stage where it will soon be operational. As the first 3 carriages are currently being inastalled, this multi-billion project promises to be one of the most technologically advanced forms of transport yet. The first phase of the SMT is expected to join the city’s two airports via Metro Line 2 which is to be extended to Hongqiao Airport in the west of the city. It is powered by electromagnetism and, when running, it is suspended in air, about 10 millimetres above the track on an electromagnetic cushion.

Punk Rock Baby!
This could only get better if you played it in a broken lift in McDonalds…
(and it was scratched and it kept jumping to play the same bit over and over and over and and over…)

This morning I entered the R.I.S.E. competition to go to the Burning Man Festival in Black Rock City, Nevada. The festival runs for a week starting this Monday. Its not something you can pack for at the last minute so I dont know why R.I.S.E. ran the comp at such short notice. Some people pack months in advance. It’s in the desert, with no commerce, no facilities, it’s boiling hot in the day and freezing at night. You get to burn stuff, wear very little (if you feel like wearing anything), paint people, learn to ride unicycles on the sand and take unforgettable photographs.

Wow! This is the most impressive crop circle Ive ever seen!! The scale and detail is amazing.

The farmer Mike Burge, of Vale Farm has agreed to keep the crop Circle in his field until after the UK Bank Holiday 27th August 2002. Don’t miss out on this incredible opportunity! Make sure you see it. It’s located between Sparsholt and Pitt, just west of Winchester in Hampshire. The formation itself is in a field immediately to the west of a complex of radio transmission towers.

- Here are some free crop-circle dingbats. (pc & mac)

Okay I know Im being cheeky and its not all British men, but why do so many of them love to spontaneously spit so much? I’m constantly having to dodge giant fermenting gob splats on the pavements and the offending snort-and-gob machines.

They also seem to have no problem with peeing on any public building/shop/toilet/beach/church/office on the way to and from the pub, at any time of day or night. Pungent fumes fill my bedroom every night when I open the windows to get some ‘fresh air’.

“A few years back, British Telecom, as part of its “exciting” “new” look, decided to remove the country’s distinctive red telephone kiosks. Admittedly, the kiosks had one basic flaw, which their designer, Sir Gilbert Scott, had not foreseen: The British were wont to use them as public toilets. This tended to discourage long phone calls. Nonetheless, the announcement of their demise prompted a public outcry: That’s to say, the British denounced the removal of their red kiosks for about ten minutes and then found somewhere else to urinate late at night.” (source)

What is happening to our generation… And the next generation?? Why is it that disorders (I hate that word) like autism are becoming more and more frequent in this day and age?? An interesting theory is investigated in the US and UK, where numbers have increased dramatically in recent times.

Aaaaah! Pashasha! In light of my earlier blog about SA Music Week, I would like to suggest a fantastic new compilation that BMG Africa has just released. Pashasa (meaning ‘its all good’) is a brilliant introduction for newcomers to the SA music scene, and features a variety of talented artists and styles. Just the kind of album to put a smile on your face…. even this early in the week.

BMG Africa’s Click2Music site features a review of the Pashasha album as well as sound clips from some of the tracks. This is an album worth getting!!

Breast milk is unique and cannot be replaced by formula, with its fatty-acids, antibodies, healty bacteria, and other immune-building substances. That is why mothers are donating their own breast milk to an Aids orphanage in KwaZulu-Natal which has established its own breast-milk bank.

If you can help or would like to know more visit the iThemba Lethu Website or visit the website for World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action.

South African Music WeekThe South African Music Week starts on Saturday the 24th. This is a very cool initiative (made possible by too many people to mention) that aims to enhance and promote the profile and exposure of South African music talent (which by the way is fantastic!!). Although there is an official SAMW site, iAfrica provides a clear and to the point overview of the event at such. As a proud supporter of SA music myself, I will - throughout the week - link to a few of my favourite artists and bands.

(Unfortunatly there are way too many for me to mention, but if you find anything in particular interesting, or if you want more info on any band(s), please contact me and I will try to point you in the right direction - mondays.)
