Origami CD Cases

Ooh I love this! An environmentally-friendly alternative to those plastic CD cases, and it looks cool! All you need is a single piece of paper and no glue.

Really useful for people with spindles of CD’s and not enough covers, so they end up lying around getting scratched. I’m thinking of designing and printing out some really cool looking Yummy Wakame covers for clients.

Here’s a site where they generate a CD track list for you to print out on your case.

Found at Sauceruney’s!

Special offer: Free electricity for life!

People who have solar photovoltaic systems and mini wind-turbines installed on their homes often produce enough electricity to not only fulfil all their household energy needs, but have enough left over to sell back to the grid. Unfortunately the money you get for the electricity you sell isn’t nearly as much as it costs to buy from your supplier.

Now imagine if your country’s government forced suppliers to match that price, what a huge incentive it would be? More people would want to install these alternative energy systems, not only because they would get free energy for life, but they would also have a way to considerably supplement their household incomes. more…

Jack S. Kilby, an Inventor of the Microchip, Is Dead at 81

It has just been brought to my attention that Jack Kilby, inventor of the integrated circuit, died on Monday.

His death, after a brief battle with cancer, was announced yesterday by Texas Instruments, the Dallas-based electronics company where he worked for a quarter-century.

The integrated circuit that Mr. Kilby designed shortly after arriving at Texas Instruments in 1958 served as the basis for modern microelectronics, transforming a technology that permitted the simultaneous manufacturing of a mere handful of transistors into a chip industry that routinely places billions of Lilliputian switches in the area of a fingernail.

His achievement – the integration – yielded a thin chip of crystal connecting previously separate components like transistors, resistors and capacitors within a single device. For that creation, commonly called the microchip, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2000.

Go ahead, commit an atrocity

Atrocities it is then!Have you always wanted to go on a Bonny & Clyde-esque rampage across America, showing those goody-two-shoes know-it-alls the meaning of calamity? Have you always wondered what that little Curious George guy would have turned out like without the guidance of the Man in the Big Yellow Hat? Do you like simple games where your options are to either “move” or “commit atrocity”?

I answered “hell yes!” to all of those questions last night, and so Bobby Stones presented me with this fine piece of programming…

Women fall into ‘trance’ during orgasm

couple in loveThe scans show that during sexual activity, the parts of the female brain responsible for processing fear, anxiety and emotion start to relax and reduce in activity. This reaches a peak at orgasm, when the female brain’s emotion centres are effectively closed down to produce an almost trance-like state.”

Scan spots women faking orgasms

In women, turning off fear and anxiety is key, while men need to know they will be physically stimulated.”

Professor Holstege said: “Women can imitate orgasm quite well.” But with genuine orgasm, he said: “What we see is an extreme deactivation of large portions of the brain and especially the emotional parts involved with fear. “If you look at the women who faked orgasm intentionally you see the motor cortex – the conscious part of the brain – is activated. “This means the movements that we make in [real] orgasm are not conscious. “And if you are fearful, it is very hard to have sex. It’s very hard to let go.”

He said this was useful for men to know. “When you want to make love to a woman, you must give her the feeling of being protected.”

Ceremonial acts of gladness

Here are a whole bunch of pagan rituals described in detail for your convenience.

I find it’s more powerful to make up my own rituals. And it’s more fun! Ask Hal Falon. He once wrote to me, asking to be pen pals and reassured me he’s witchier than most women. I did not find this information reassuring. I’m obviously not pagan enough.

“Everything we do” video mp3

the bandOoh this is SO catchy! I heard it for the first time on my new D500 and I can’t get the tune out of my head. Today I decided to find out more about the band and discovered to my amazement they’re Danish!! Mmmm and lead singer with the serious cowboy thing going has multiple talents – he designed the site too.

The video could make you long for roadtrips through the desert and cowgirls with big bowling balls.

Go forth, explore the main search engines, and remember the differences:

This is for sure one of the most important parts of searchlores, and you would be well advised to try some of the incredibly powerful search engines listed below. If you limit yourself to google (that on 10/NOV/2004 doubled it’s index to 8 billions pages) you ‘ll miss more than two thirds of the web!

One Google to rule them all with broad might, and americanocentric censorship, one Teoma to refine and refine and refine the queryes, one Fast for the obscure deep web, to bring us all in the depth, and in the darkness enlighten us…

Spring in, if you dare! Again, you have been warned: at first you’ll only fathom the existence of the abyss, only later you’ll understand its real depth and width.

Protesting

Love Park“A Philadelphia police officer died of an apparent heart attack Tuesday after a scuffle with protesters outside BIO 2005, the Biotechnology Industry Organization’s annual trade show and convention being held this year in [Philadelphia].”

Biotech protesters and disgruntled skateboarders appeared in troves, albeit by coincidence, at Philly’s Love Park, each to demonstrate for their own respective causes. The biotechnology protesters had come to get their views out amidst BIO 2005, a huge convention for the biotech industry. The skateboarders had come to take back Love Park, which is to skateboarding as Jerusalem is to Palestinians.

Liquor Does It Quicker

Saab’s BioPower engine gives ethanol a kick in the pants

Popular Science: “With all the buzz about hybrids, it’s easy to ignore our homegrown alternative fuel: ethanol. Clean-burning and infinitely renewable—we’re talking grain alcohol—ethanol is dear to environmentalists and economists alike. The standard 85/15-percent ethanol/gasoline blend (E85) is widely used in Sweden, but there are only 313 E85 fueling stations in the U.S. And motorheads aren’t clamoring for more, because E85 typically delivers inferior fuel economy; it has about 75 percent of the potential energy of gasoline, so it takes up to 20 percent more hooch to keep horsepower on par. But E85 also has a high octane rating (around 110), and Saab realized that a turbocharger could harness it. Turbos push extra air into the cylinder, and higher octane allows a fuel to better endure the increased pressure. So Saab cranked up its fans and created the BioPower engine, the first commercially available ethanol turbo. A computer samples the fuel mixture and adjusts boost pressure—from 5.8 psi for pure gasoline to 13.8 psi for E85. Running straight gasoline, the engine produces 148 horsepower, but E85 jacks it up to 184, with no penalty in fuel economy.”

Check out the stats.
