and do the great things while they are small. A journey of a thousand miles must begin with a single step.„ ~ Lao Tzu

Environmental Policy

Due to the online nature of my work, material purchases and production waste is minimal. I do not own a printer anymore which encourages me to only print when absolutely necessary by finding a commercial printing facility.

I do not own a car so I get around by foot, bus and bike.

Often I live in my RV which travels minimally so it has its advantages. I live and work from a very small space to heat and cool, and due to its size I cannot purchase anything unnecessary, reducing waste automagically. Heating and electric costs are negligible in a 115 sq ft space. To give you an idea I use about 50 gallons of LP a month in the dead of winter. This includes baking fresh bread every few days and cooking / preparing all meals that are eaten at home. I love to purchase fresh local food wherever I live or along the road as I travel, and try to buy organic local food whenever possible as it cuts down so much on produce transportation. I no longer have a garden to water – though some day I plan to have one to grow medicinal herbs as well as all the fruit and vegetable needs of the home.

I reuse a lot of containers, plastic bags and paper before it goes into recycling, and hold onto hazardous waste such as batteries and broken electronic equipment until I travel to an area with the facilities to dispose of them correctly. A lot of Whole Foods outlets provide this service for free. Anything reusable I no longer have any use for gets dropped straight off at Goodwill.

Business travel is at an absolute minimum, with almost all correspondence and dealings with clients carried out over the phone and internet. All invoices are sent by email and carried out via Google Checkout or PayPal, thereby eliminating the silliness of cheques and postage.

Client Testimonial

Designate

“I have worked with Olivia on and off for nearly five years now. Olivia is fantastic to work with. She is quick and bright, and seems to always gets the brief spot on first time. Her designs are reliably usable, accessible and attractive – she is never over protective of them and understands clients’ needs. She is extremely fast and reliable, and will pull out all the stops if she knows I am in trouble with tight deadlines on a project!”

Help Obama Pass
Immigration Reform

American’s immigration system is broken and desperately needs reform. President Obama said he supports a four-pillared famework for comprehensive immigration reform put forward by Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC). This bi-partisan plan is the first step toward writing legislation that is truly fair to families, workers and our communities. Please write your lawmakers in Washington and urge them to support the Schumer-Graham plan for immigration reform. »
