The Onion Store Cottages

The Apple Store

One of 3 intensely private, totally peaceful, romantic hideaway cottages near the New Forest.
Open for lovers 1st May to 6th October each year.

I booked this unforgettable holiday as a surprise getaway gift for Pieter to mark our anniversary. It is such a popular spot I had to book nearly a year in advance.

We walked through our own private garden gate to find a pretty pebbled garden with gazebo and private jacuzzi. The garden is surrounded by high hedging for privacy. Near the gate was the entrance to our little wooden cottage. It is a small cottage, and the huge bed almost entirely filled the room. The bed was made by hand from an apple tree and the branches stretch right up into the roof. The bed was incredibly cozy, covered with white linen, a green bedspread and apple-green velvet cushions. At night while we were out having a candle-lit meal at a nearby restaurant our bed was opened up, and pillows were fluffed. The bath was just behind the bed. There were candles in the wall around it, flowers and rose bath salts. The heated towel rail had two sumptious white fluffy towels. The toilet was more like an apple-branch 'throne', tucked away in a tiny room next to the bath, with a quirky silver sparkly seat. At night we watched the sun set from the bed through the glass windows that apex into the roof.

In the morning the sunlight came streaming in through them, waking us up in time for breakfast freshly prepared and served between 9 and 10. We walked through a leafy garden passage, past an apple tree and into the greenhouse where we found three secluded breakfast tables, each surrounded by plants. Ours was the blue table. We could choose between Full English, vegetarian or smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and tropical fruit platter. Very filling and delicious! This was all served around the heated indoor pool. The Apple Store cottage has its own private jacuzzi so you dont need to use the indoor pool - Pieter's happy feet loved the jacuzzi.

I paged through the guestbook to read wonderful stories of re-ignited passion, engagements, conceptions and 30 year wedding anniversaries!

This is a very unique and special place.
