Jacob’s Well – one of the most dangerous dive spots on the planet

The largest underwater cave in Texas has been known to swallow people whole, it has also provided a nearly non-stop source of water for thousands of years. Jacob’s Well is an amazing sight to see, as the water from deep within the well pools out into a natural spring that runs off into Cypress Creek.

As you jump in, it looks like you’re going to fall down an endless hole, as the 13-foot opening of Jacob’s well lurks beneath the water’s surface. If you do descend down the well, there are numerous chambers at various depths. The first chamber is located 30 feet from the top of the well, and it also continues another 55 feet down. Here it is bright, and wildlife and algae are present.

Things change when you reach the second chamber, located 80 feet below the surface. Down here divers must be aware of a certain chimney that appears to be a way out of the chamber, this ‘fake’ exit has trapped and killed at least one diver. The third chamber can be reached through an opening located in the second chamber.

Few have had the guts to venture inside of the fourth chamber, which includes squeezing through a very narrow passageway. The ones that have report gorgeous sights, including unmatched limestone formations packed throughout. Many inexperienced divers venture down to the chambers. Unfortunately, at least 8 have died during their explorations.

Jacob’s Well was first discovered back in 1850 by early settlers who were overjoyed at the sight of the well and all of its perfect looking blue water. Today the well is still enjoyed by many and remains full of history.

The amount of water released by Jacob’s Well has reduced year after year, allowing divers to reach new depths and discoveries, while also presenting a problem. In 2000, and again in 2008, water from Jacob’s Well stopped flowing completely, alerting locals and conservationists that something needed to be done. No one wants the famous well to turn into “Jacob’s Cave.”

In hopes of preserving Jacob’s Well for future generations, one generous man created The Watershed Association. The job of this association is to spread awareness and protect Jacob’s Well from developers and other unnatural harms. This same individual is donating his house as a research and education center where people can learn more about Jacob’s Well.

RAD!!!!! This 2 year old South African DJ is really feeling it! If you don’t know what Kwaito music sounds like, this is it! Kwaito emerged in Johannesburg in the 90s, and is a variant of house music, but with African sounds and samples.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE and adore the the BareNakedFamily! They have been friends of mine and an inspiration to me for YEARS! You might have heard of them or even seen them on TV over the years – they might have even been your neighbours. Becoming BareNaked is a handwritten book from Jenn‘s personal journals culminating the last twelve years of her family’s adventurous upbringing – escaping their “American Dream” lifestyle, pulling their kids out of school, and hitting the road – living (in my opinion) the ultimate dream lifestyle as true Americans. Their kids are among the few most well adjusted, smartest kids I have ever known, lovingly home-schooled on the road – the ultimate learning experience. They all just started college this year!

Becoming BareNaked is a book personally written with the details of how exciting, terrifying, and absolutely raw we were in getting out of the thickly laid web of the American Dream. Thoughts, perspectives, judgements, second guessing, and a whole lot of philosophy on how we did this and what it was like to not only take our lives back, but the responsibility of raising kids in it all. It’s one thing to risk yourself for what you believe in, doing it with three kids; two dogs; and a cat…bold. …because that’s usually when things start to happen. So this is island Ko Pha-ngan, in the Gulf of Thailand. And I would like to live here someday. Soonish.

So I’ve never been to Thailand before. I know! Incredible isn’t it! It seems like the most obvious place in the world to visit. The problem with Thailand is I’ve wanted to go for decades but I’ve had this sneaking suspicion that if I went there, even to visit, I wouldn’t want to leave. Ever. Which would put a damper on the whole travel thing quite a bit. I think its a bit like being afraid to meet the person of your dreams too early, because then you might want to settle down and produce their spawn. So… I’m still resisting a little bit, but I feel that there are so many signs now, and so much of my past is releasing, or Im releasing so much from my past that I could do this soon.

Imagine… an Isle Land in Thai Land! Eating Thai food every day. REAL Thai food. Living on a beach in the secluded gulf protected from earthquakes and tsunamis and general 1st world nonsense, surrounded by nature and creativity. Mmmmmm I can so imagine it, its like I’m already there… No no I must focus! There are other things to do first. I have to earn money and connect to the internet to do that so that I can go back to Port Land for a bit. And also think about it a little more… plan a bit better. Give myself time to change my mind. Wouldnt it be amazing to live on the beach there? Or a boat? Fro would do her NUT in Thailand!!! Uhh… whenever I start thinking about this idea I get lost for days and days and its hard to get back on track and focus on real life. But I must. So… to be continued I say.
