Total Lunar Eclipse, 21 December 2010
I couldn’t believe how lucky I was last night, to find myself alone this 2am, because for the first time in 372 years, a total lunar eclipse occurred on the date of the northern winter solstice.
The clouds had parted for the occasion and the sky was at its blackest black, framed by the edges of lush jungle trees on this sleeping island. It was a spectacular show with blinking and shooting stars, with only one wish made. On every one of them. I couldn’t believe the colours. Or how long she hung in the sky, swollen like this. I waited an hour before falling sleepy so I never got to watch her final exit. I wish I had.
I am so grateful to be here. So grateful.
Nooooooo waaaaay!
Yes way. Yes. They are all real.
Disturbing Pregnancy Photos
The pics are kinda small. I found I could click on them and drag them into the address bar and they enlarged to their original sizes. But I promise this wont make them any less disturbing.
Ometepe Instagrams From My Cameraphonolio
I have another Facebook photo album you might be into, if you like even scruffier than my scruffy snapshots. I also took these with the iPhone through the Instagram app. They don’t really chronicle life on the island so I haven’t included it on the main album.
The Land of Ice and Happiness
Oh… my… God. Ok. I hate cold weather. But this place draws me like a MAGNET. Not to mention that Iceland residents have the highest happiness index according to many internet articles, and it has the aurora borealis, which is one of the top 10 things I want to see before I die. Ideally from up above as I get sucked up into it. Wow, these photos are STUNNING!!!
And there are many many more over here…
Thanks Shawn Snyder :)
Wide Wings Fly Solo
This morning I woke up in Cristiano’s loft, packed my stuff again after a lovely week there, still stuffed from the handmade French crepe made by tres sexie “no, is not a pancake! Is a crepe.” Arturo last night, and joined my El Zopilote friends for a last game of cards while others peeled fresh roasted cacao.
I hugged them goodbye around 10:30am and headed down the winding path to the main road. Heavily slept, huge smile on my face, feeling absolutely deliciously contented I caught two buses to Moyogulpa. (more…)
I am home
I stood eyes closed, arms outstretched, bare feet on the earth, as I felt my roots penetrate deep into the earth, through the ancestors I carry with me with this lifeforce, right to the very first ancestor that links us all. I felt the light run all the way from zero, through my body and out the crown of my head, reaching to the stars and beyond in a long white light. I am rooted in this light. The thread of life. I am home. Everywhere I go. I am free. The search is over.
My friend Kelly found me and took this photo a few minutes later…
This morning I was ready to leave InanItah. Every question I had when I came is answered. I gathered the pieces of my soul here that were scattered for years. I packed my backpack, fewer things than I came with, hugged the friends who had become my family goodbye. For three months we grew, learned, danced, shouted at and cried together. I will never forget any of their faces, each of their scents, how they each laugh and show love in different ways. I’m still on Ometepe Island. I don’t know for how much longer. Every day is taken as a gift here. I’m enjoying every minute.
I’m honoured I was chosen to be alive.
Birds! Bursting into flight! YEAH!!!

Under The Gun
I believe a great tattooist is the DJ of your temple. The moment his needle touches your skin he’s mixing a timeless song, to your beat, just for your pleasure. Others can watch but you’re the only ones dancing.
“The silhouette of birds, bursting into flight, following this line of my hip bone…” I continued to describe the vision to the tattoo artist while sitting outside a simple hut in Nicaragua.

Protect the Western Arctic Reserve From Big Oil
The Western Arctic Reserve, also known as the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, is the largest tract of unprotected, relatively pristine public land in the United States. The 23.5 million-acre reserve is home to imperiled polar bears, seabirds and one of the densest populations of nesting raptors in the world. Its shores and lagoons harbor beluga whales, seals, walruses and other marine mammals. The BLM is accepting comments on a planning document that sets the stage for oil and gas leasing in the western Arctic for decades to come. Help save this national treasure by telling the BLM to protect the Western Arctic Reserve from dirty fossil fuel development »
