Bring back the feeling – create a Muxtape!
And listen to other’s. Its a glorious mixed bag of musical goodness! I love the idea behind this site and the simple way it works. You can easily share music with friends or your blog readers if that’s your thing. I simply prefer being immersed in a lot of old and new sounds I haven’t heard of yet. A great way to shake out of a stagnating music habit.
Yesterday I was all about the acoustic and live mixtapes. Right now I’m mostly listening to AcidInjection’s muxtape so I can keep sharply focussed on a tricky project I’m working on.
Please post your favourite findings in the comments and the ones you’ve made so we can all enjoy!

(Because I screwed up the track link last time. Weirdly this was posted a year ago to the day!)
More and more gorgeous progressive sounds are coming out of South Africa these days. If you’re a fan of Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada or múm, you might have already heard of Felix Laband… but just in case you haven’t, you’re going to love this:
Felix Laband – Whistling in Tongues
I get goosebumps from the drums near the end. Gets me all riled up!
I loved this track so much I couldn’t stop myself from buying his album. It’s infectious, delicious perfection.
Amazon.com rolls out DRM-free music store globally as iTunes cries like a baby
That’s right! Amazon recently finished signing all four major record labels to its MP3 music store and said it would begin rolling out the online service internationally this year. Amazon’s Music Store is now free of digital rights management technology, which means the audio files can be played on any portable player through any mp3 media player. At last! Besides offering flexibility in playing tunes, Amazon.com is also trying to lure customers away from rivals with price. Apple sells individual tracks for 99 cents and albums for $9.99, but Amazon.com offers a third of its inventory at 89 cents a track. Albums cost from $5.99 to $9.99.
Amazon.com is hoping consumers will turn to it instead of iTunes or Microsoft’s Zune store in order to take advantage of a more open format. And I have a strong feeling as iTunes catches on this will naturally encourage a massive surge in legal mp3 purchases and be a life-saving move for the music industry as a whole.
La Vida de Vagabundos Americanos
I have a bit of an obsession with The Dead Man Street Orchestra – a close group of hobos / musical gypsy’s who catch rides on freight trains across the country and play their hearts out on the streets for fun. If you’re living in the warm South this winter you might be lucky enough to stumble on them.
I don’t think I could just go travelling with these guys for a few months and ever be the same again. The photos promise that.
This lifestyle is contagious – check out this amazing gallery I found of other kids travelling by train. When I first came across these pics I thought they were the Deadman Street Orchestra but an anonymous commenter helped me out.
Musical influences:
“Beans, Rum, home made instruments, trash percussion, gypsy fiddle, sing a longs, old folks, trampin folks, young folks, workin folks, bums who ride for free, free time, free music, free morning coffee, rollin cigerettes, tuning A quarter 1/2 step sharp, loveable black and red dogs, back porches, sushi, and beans, a cold beer in a hot boxcar, and a tune ya just wanta play all day…”
The entire Dead Man Street Orchestra album is available in mp3′s and won’t cost you a single bean of course! Recorded in the woods at Mutant Fest this year.

and another gallery post about them I cant find right now but plan to put here later. (Let me know if you know where it is!!)
L'etranger
This song so vividly taps into memories of being a foreigner in a new city, a new bar, a party… feeling that apprehension and timidness, sitting alone for hours, watching people together, waiting for something… or someone who’s known me all my life to walk in and sit by my side, or someone who wants to…

AirPort Express Plugin For WinAmp (Windows)
If you want an affordable wireless speaker solution for your home and like me you have a lot of restricted audio formats that won’t play in iTunes (or if iTunes just bugs the nipples off you) there is great news!
Remote Speakers Output Plug-In will send streams to your Airport Express speakers through Winamp! No iTunes installation required. It will even allow you to control the volume through Winamp and works with the remote control.
I just purchased it today for next to nothing through PayPal and it works beautifully! Eric, the creator, was very helpful and responded quickly when I had problems getting it to work at first. You can test it out for 2 weeks for free too.
Here’s the Winamp Plugin page with reviews.

Iron & Wine – The Sea and the Rhythm
Tonight, we’re the sea and the salty breeze
the milk from your breast is on my lips
and lovelier words from your mouth to me
when salty my sweat and fingertipsOur hands they seek the end of afternoon
My hands believe and move over youTonight, we’re the sea and
the rhythm there
the waves and the wind and night is black
tonight we’re the scent of your
long black hair
spread out like your breath
across my back
Your hands they move like waves over me
beneath the moon, tonight, we’re the sea
Protect the Western Arctic Reserve From Big Oil
The Western Arctic Reserve, also known as the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, is the largest tract of unprotected, relatively pristine public land in the United States. The 23.5 million-acre reserve is home to imperiled polar bears, seabirds and one of the densest populations of nesting raptors in the world. Its shores and lagoons harbor beluga whales, seals, walruses and other marine mammals. The BLM is accepting comments on a planning document that sets the stage for oil and gas leasing in the western Arctic for decades to come. Help save this national treasure by telling the BLM to protect the Western Arctic Reserve from dirty fossil fuel development »
