$1000 Egg House on Wheels

Oh I am madly in love with this little pod house!!!!

The newly-graduated architect rarely has the luxury of living in an owned home, and may even find their starting salary insufficient to afford a decent apartment within walking (or riding) distance of the office. For a three-figure sum, this designer has solved both problems at once via a unique DIY dwelling project… more

*** UPDATE ***
Oh no! It looks like the government didn’t appreciate the media attention and forced him out of his house :(
Egg house designer will be forced to live in rented house

The most alien-looking place on Earth

Socotra, Republic of Yemen:
It is very isolated with a harsh, dry climate and as a result a third of its plant-life is found nowhere else, including the famous Dragon’s Blood Tree, a very-unnatural looking umbrella-shaped tree which produces red sap. There are also a large number of birds, spiders and other animals native to the island, and coral reefs around it which similarly have a large number of endemic (i.e. only found there) species. Socotra is considered the most biodiverse place in the Arabian sea, and is a World Heritage Site.

Look at those awesome juicy plant lumplings!! Like something out of Dr Seuss. I WANT to be there.

Spam of the Day

I fell asleep last night with such an uneasy feeling. So when I woke up and checked my emails this morning, I don’t know what I was hoping for, but something, something good or exciting or positive news.

I usually don’t read stuff from spammers but I was magnetised to open this:

“Every little thing you desire is available waiting for you to ask. Almost everything you want also desires you. Nonetheless you need to take action to obtain it.”

Lovely. I can do that! What a gift this was. A reminder to stay strong. Worrying is wasted effort. How about doing.

Truth waits on eyes unclouded by longing

Truly, one may gain by losing;
And one may lose by gaining.

~ Lao Tzu

Something permanently changed in me tonight after I took this photo. I walked home in the dark instead of using the headlamp, with acute awareness of my footing, living the present moment, using all my senses, praying I wouldn’t unknowingly squish any frog princes. All the vivid colours that come out at night would have blackened out with a light. I wondered, why do we automatically switch them on without realising this huge tradeoff?

A few hours later while sitting on a rock in the pitch dark, watching a massive lightning storm light up the bellowing clouds circling the volcano, I felt the click happen.

All these years I’ve been desperate for a sense of home, some soil to call my own. The desperation pushed it ever further from my reach until finally I was completely without even a place to return to.

A New Dream

The colours were almost unbearably bright. The sun flared through my eyelashes. Delicious excitement pulsed through me as I bit into a plump mango, the juice running down darkly tanned twiggy arms. And as I started to slip away from the dreamworld, I saw myself standing on the edge of a cheerfully painted simple wooden boat, wearing a beat up string bikini and little skirt, atop skinny little fruit-fed legs that knew exactly where they were going. A hand-strung hammock lazed seductively under a sunshade, and I knew there was food and a few belongings stowed away beneath me. My black cat watching out at the bow.

Unfortunately the excitement of hitting on something that buzzed me up so much woke me suddenly. But as I backtracked over the dream in those fast-melting moments of dream catching I remembered how I spent my days visiting islands, speaking a strange language, picking fruit and buying gasoline, colourful people I met as I floated from shore to shore. Then I remembered how it all began – Joseph decided to go on an incredible adventure, he got a boat and I wanted to go with him so badly. But then I realised it would be more fun for each of us to have a small boat of our own to adventure around in.

I want this. So badly. And I keep dreaming of Belize.

Roust about

I need a jolt from a lightning bolt!

So an invite from Dragon arrived just in time. Time to let my hair tumble down, let off loads of pent up steam. Run around in the desert sun in flip flops, dance every bit of energy out of this frantic, aching, loving body all through the days and nights. We have only this one wild and precious life. There are beautiful people to meet and inspiring sights to see.

I’m pretty much out of cash but could work the site breakdown, be a rousty in exchange for entrance and camping. Would be the SWEETEST after-party!!! Hitting the hot springs before and after. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! Sleeping in hammocks, under the desert stars again. The desert, where I love to breathe, swim and heal.

Crap, ALL my summer clothes are in Marathon. Seriously, living out of a small suitcase is starting to lose its appeal when all I have is reminders of dreary crappy winter packed into it. I cant afford to jet set around the country to get my clothes before the festival. I can’t afford new clothes. I have flipflops, jeans, a bikini, and will have to hit the thrift stores in preparation. Fortunately you don’t need to wear much in the desert sun.

Oh this has to happen. I have to make it happen.

Dream Bed

Apart from waking up in a big old sleeping bag in a plump nest of clover, this, really, is my ultimate dream bed. I try to not want things… but look at it! I can’t help it!

WANTED!

With a FURIOUS PASSION. FURIOUS!!!! I have searched for this deck for 10 years. I have YEARNED for this deck. I have dreamed of it, DREAMED many dreams, woken up wondering when and how I will get this deck. I could only find it as a collectible item for hundreds of dollars before. Please please PLEASE, by the power of the Moon, the Stars and Greyskull, let this book come with the tarot deck as part of the package. I hope it comes wrapped in my dream caravan wagon too, with the purple drapes, red and gold filigree wallpaper, and green shutters, I will supply the laundry hanging on the attached line, and I will accept the cards in a box with this book, without the caravan. Very acceptable. Thank you.

Protect the Western Arctic Reserve From Big Oil

The Western Arctic Reserve, also known as the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, is the largest tract of unprotected, relatively pristine public land in the United States. The 23.5 million-acre reserve is home to imperiled polar bears, seabirds and one of the densest populations of nesting raptors in the world. Its shores and lagoons harbor beluga whales, seals, walruses and other marine mammals. The BLM is accepting comments on a planning document that sets the stage for oil and gas leasing in the western Arctic for decades to come. Help save this national treasure by telling the BLM to protect the Western Arctic Reserve from dirty fossil fuel development »
