Esque
If you’ve happened upon an unusual work of glass in a design store, magazine or Donna Karan’s NY flagship over the last decade or so, it’s probably a piece by the Portland-based studio Esque.
In this video we visit the workshop and meet the duo behind Esque, Andi Kovel and Justin Parker, who formed the creative partnership in 1996 and have been subtly reinventing the artform since. Here, Andi explains her choice of medium and the two walk us through the process of creating one of their renowned water drop jugs.

MVRDV WoZoCos
WoZoCos is just one of many projects planned and constructed by the MVRDV. Based in Rotterdam, the MVRDV has been creating unusual and beautiful architecture since 1996.
On the edge of Amsterdam an otherwise ordinary apartment slab is expanded by radically cantilevering apartments over the sidewalk on one side of the building. On the other side, colourful translucent balconies punctuate the facade.

There is something about the whole concept of having to have the latest handbag at any cost that’s so ridiculous to me, but since this company is offering an affordable solution and its such a unique and novel business idea I couldn’t resist blogging it.

The Tiniest House In The World
I can’t help but envy Jay Shafer. For the past 10 years he has been living in a tiny wooden house the size I’ve always wanted to live in, without any clutter and he sleeps in a divine mezzanine bed. A portable home that can be relocated anywhere he wants to live – on a river or even up in a tree. (If he was living up in a tree that would be officially unfair). Jay is a designer specializing in sustainable architecture and urban planning. You can find out more about him here.

“I call the first of my little hand built houses Tumbleweed. My decision to inhabit just 100 square feet arose from some concerns I had about the impact a larger house would have on the environment, and because I do not want to maintain a lot of unused or unusable space. My houses have met all of my domestic needs without demanding much in return. The simple, slower lifestyle my homes have afforded is a luxury for which I am continually grateful.”

The 23.5 million-acre reserve is home to imperiled polar bears, seabirds and one of the densest populations of nesting raptors in the world. Its shores and lagoons harbor beluga whales, seals, walruses and other marine mammals. The BLM is accepting comments on a planning document that sets the stage for oil and gas leasing in the western Arctic for decades to come.
