Speedway 105 Café
My dad Paul and his twin brother Dave van der Spuy are interviewed @ Speedway Cafe. It’s amazing to see the place jamming — originally a dream of theirs for years and years, and with all the crazy setbacks I was beginning to wonder if it would ever happen. But one thing I know about my dad is that if he’s passionate about something, nothing will stop him. If you live in Cape Town and are a huge fast and classic car and bike enthusiast, you may have already visited. My dad’s the one on the left throughout most of the video. Unbelievably I’ve still never seen it — haven’t been back to Cape Town in over 10 years. I’m dying to go!! Please go for me if you can.

My life As I Remember It
“I’ve seen the eye of God and been touched by her hand.
I’ve seen miracles happen and been
disappointed dozens of times.
I’ve been almost everywhere, met almost everyone, seen almost everything,
done almost all of it, and I’m still waiting to be discovered.
The night has a thousand eyes and I’m a gypsy dancer still hungry for more.”
~ Bobby Miller from My Life As I Remember It
Thanks Kit!
If you can’t be with the one you love, honey
If you can take it from a woman who learned this the hard way 2 times now….treading silently along the old haunt of my early path, I can feel you there, I can hear your confusion.

Confounding Compounding Mystery
It’s been one thing after another the past few months and I’ve been trying to figure out what’s going on and just keep my head above water. I cant figure out why I’m being hit with so many storms at once with such an intense duration and increasing momentum. (more…)
I Am Me
Virginia Satir came to write this poem when she was working with an angry fifteen-year-old girl who had a lot of questions about herself and what life meant. (more…)
I love you! yeah yeah yeah
Thank you for your unfailing love, support, understanding and generally putting up with me for WAY longer than either of us ever expected. Thank you for ALWAYS making me feel welcome and at home in your home. Thank you for putting your arms around me on the many rainy days and getting wet with me through some of the worst storms I couldn’t escape. You are an extraordinary, loyal, strong, beautiful soul. You are so much fun to live with AND you have the most impossibly tiny butt to pinch. I am honoured to be your girlfriend. I am lucky we are growing and healing together. I love you my friend.
Our summer is coming! I can smell it.
Roust about
I need a jolt from a lightning bolt!
So an invite from Dragon arrived just in time. Time to let my hair tumble down, let off loads of pent up steam. Run around in the desert sun in flip flops, dance every bit of energy out of this frantic, aching, loving body all through the days and nights. We have only this one wild and precious life. There are beautiful people to meet and inspiring sights to see.
I’m pretty much out of cash but could work the site breakdown, be a rousty in exchange for entrance and camping. Would be the SWEETEST after-party!!! Hitting the hot springs before and after. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!! Sleeping in hammocks, under the desert stars again. The desert, where I love to breathe, swim and heal.
Crap, ALL my summer clothes are in Marathon. Seriously, living out of a small suitcase is starting to lose its appeal when all I have is reminders of dreary crappy winter packed into it. I cant afford to jet set around the country to get my clothes before the festival. I can’t afford new clothes. I have flipflops, jeans, a bikini, and will have to hit the thrift stores in preparation. Fortunately you don’t need to wear much in the desert sun.
Oh this has to happen. I have to make it happen.
WTH man!?
Two published posts now, made in the last week, lost to the interweb. I used the old WordPress for iPhone app for both of them. Guess its time to upgrade…
The Winds of Africa
by Patricia Wellingham-Jones
She carried a pinch of his ashes
from the Santa Cruz Mountains
to Kilimanjaro.
Through several security checks
the ashes rode
in a sealed plastic bag
stowed in her purse,
tucked under her pillow,
carried up the mountain in her bra.
Released at the top
to the harsh winds of Africa
the ashes flew with her prayers.
Her body lightened
from the weight of promises,
she started the downward trek home.

Protect the Western Arctic Reserve From Big Oil
The Western Arctic Reserve, also known as the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, is the largest tract of unprotected, relatively pristine public land in the United States. The 23.5 million-acre reserve is home to imperiled polar bears, seabirds and one of the densest populations of nesting raptors in the world. Its shores and lagoons harbor beluga whales, seals, walruses and other marine mammals. The BLM is accepting comments on a planning document that sets the stage for oil and gas leasing in the western Arctic for decades to come. Help save this national treasure by telling the BLM to protect the Western Arctic Reserve from dirty fossil fuel development »
