What's Travian All About?

My favourite little time-stealer, Travian is a browser-based strategy game cleverly programmed in PHP so that you don't need to download anything to play. Started in Germany, Travian is quite easily the most played browser game right now and has grown to over 3 million players worldwide.

Events occur and resources accumulate in real time. The player starts with a small, mostly empty village and some renewable resources with the intention of building an empire. As the leader of a village, either Roman, Teuton or Gaul, your village will have its own unique types of buildings, resources, armies, strengths and weaknesses. The Gauls are largely defensive, the Teutons more aggressive and the Romans have a balance of the two styes.

Many players attack villages to gain resources (lumber, clay, iron and food) and increase their armies and empire, and most players eventually join an alliance as a defensive strategy or to destroy villages en mass.

Here's a snapshot of my peaceful Gaul village from a while back:

I really hope some of you join from my referral links as I will get gold bounty after your village has grown to a population of 75, thus allowing me to do extra fun things! Let me know if you do. I'm user yummywakame, Gaul and in the SE quadrant on US3.

Curses woman! I'm addicted now! Joined on your code - happy spending (nick: Digiball)

Ms. Wakame says:

Oh yay! hope you happen to be on the Theta server - then I'll be able to find you.

Reminds me of WOLFMAN'S home.

Eon Malherbe says:

I'm close to 75 - you should have your rewards soon ;)

David says:

Addictive, isn't it. At least until the first big attack when I'll probably get bored rebuilding it all again.

Eon Malherbe says:

I've made it to 75 citizens - you should have some coins to spend now! ;)

nathan says:

I don't understand...am I missing something? I just keep clicking on things but nothing seems to be fun. :(

Ms. Wakame says:

No youre not missing something. Your brain is just wired differently for fun. Its also really slow in the beginning because your resources grow so slowly until you upgrade them.

albear says:

Joined up and on my way to 75

Ms. Wakame says:

fantastic! what server are you on?

David says:

Still going. Up to 216 people now, so you should have got your gold a while ago.

Ms. Wakame says:

Nice one! I sure did. You and Eon. One of you is on the same server as me but it doesn't show the name of the person or anything useful like that, just your profile ID number.

David says:

I'm on us6, name davidm. I cannot find a profile number in my account anywhere. I suspect I was probably after Eon since he was nearly at 75 when I started.

Ms. Wakame says:

Oh noooo! The game just ended on my server!

Ms. Wakame says:

Okay I've preregistered on the US3 server - Username yummywakame, Gauls South East quadrant!

Try the usx server...I'm at almost 20 villages and counting! It's much more exciting then playing at the slow pace of the regular servers

Ms. Wakame says:

Oh I had to give up on Travian months ago! I got so addicted I was left with no time to earn any money, I wasn't getting enough sleep and it was generally draining the life blood out of me.

Throw in your 2 cents...

I'd love that!
