MVRDV WoZoCos

WoZoCos is just one of many projects planned and constructed by the MVRDV. Based in Rotterdam, the MVRDV has been creating unusual and beautiful architecture since 1996.

MVRDV WoZoCos

On the edge of Amsterdam an otherwise ordinary apartment slab is expanded by radically cantilevering apartments over the sidewalk on one side of the building. On the other side, colourful translucent balconies punctuate the facade.

Designer Handbags for Hire

Gucci Indy HandbagIf you’re a whore for the latest Gucci handbag and can never have enough accessories, even if it means your credit cards are rivalling your student loan, then Handbag Hire HQ could be your last chance before bankrupcy. Starting at £5 a week you could be sporting a bag straight off the catwalk.

There is something about the whole concept of having to have the latest handbag at any cost that’s so ridiculous to me, but since this company is offering an affordable solution and its such a unique and novel business idea I couldn’t resist blogging it.

LOGO

WIRED: What Became of the LOGO Programming Language?
This article gave me a happy shiver of reminiscence. The game is apparently still being used in schools to teach kids programming skills. But we don’t have to go back to school – we can
play with the turtle in our browsers right now!

The Tiniest House In The World

I can’t help but envy Jay Shafer. For the past 10 years he has been living in a tiny wooden house the size I’ve always wanted to live in, without any clutter and he sleeps in a divine mezzanine bed. A portable home that can be relocated anywhere he wants to live – on a river or even up in a tree. (If he was living up in a tree that would be officially unfair). Jay is a designer specializing in sustainable architecture and urban planning. You can find out more about him here.

Here are some gorgeous interior photos of his home.

“I call the first of my little hand built houses Tumbleweed. My decision to inhabit just 100 square feet arose from some concerns I had about the impact a larger house would have on the environment, and because I do not want to maintain a lot of unused or unusable space. My houses have met all of my domestic needs without demanding much in return. The simple, slower lifestyle my homes have afforded is a luxury for which I am continually grateful.”

The Tumbleweed Tiny House Company will prompt you to “Think Different” about the future of housing.

Here are all the tiny houses he’s designed and built. He has even made the plans available! Check out the ultra modern Z.GLASS HOUSE. Amazing designs!!!

You’re still reading? The best video of all is waiting for you!
Jay gives us a personal tour of his house. Imagine having a simple enough life that afforded you the luxury of living this way!

Woman seeks a rich husband on Craigslist

The ad has been removed from Craigslist, but it still lives on around here!

What am I doing wrong?

Okay, I’m tired of beating around the bush. I’m a beautiful (spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old girl. I’m articulate and classy.
I’m not from New York . I’m looking to get married to a guy who makes at least half a million a year. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind that a million a year is middle class in New York City, so I don’t think I’m overreaching at all. (more…)

China No.2 in billionaires

China has more billionaires than any country except the United States, as soaring stock and property prices helped to boost wealth among the country’s super-rich.

The number of Chinese worth $1 billion or more jumped to 108, from 15 last year, growing much faster than in western countries, Hoogewerf said in his 2007 China “rich list,” which ranks the 800 wealthiest individuals in the country.

“There’s still plenty of growth opportunity as China’s top entrepreneurs turn their sights to the vast underdeveloped and largely unregulated economic hinterland,”

In a sign that China’s economic growth is largely driven by construction and manufacturing, rather than by science and technology, seven of China’s 10 richest people are mainly or partly in the real estate business.

50 Animals In Casts

puppy in a cast

“Call it a fetish. But take any animal, no matter how matted its fur, no matter how walled its eyes, no matter how “rabinous” it’s “central nervous system”, and put that tiny effer in a bandage, preferably brightly colored, and the next thing you know you’ll be tearing off your bra and nursing that little sucker back to health with the Pabst Blue Ribbon that slowly leaks out of your teat. Call me a nurterer. It’s just in my genes I guess.”

Protect the Western Arctic Reserve From Big Oil

The Western Arctic Reserve, also known as the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, is the largest tract of unprotected, relatively pristine public land in the United States. The 23.5 million-acre reserve is home to imperiled polar bears, seabirds and one of the densest populations of nesting raptors in the world. Its shores and lagoons harbor beluga whales, seals, walruses and other marine mammals. The BLM is accepting comments on a planning document that sets the stage for oil and gas leasing in the western Arctic for decades to come. Help save this national treasure by telling the BLM to protect the Western Arctic Reserve from dirty fossil fuel development »
