The thing about bald guys with comb-overs who tout this type of knowledge, spewing out catch phrases like
is basically that too many farty old designers / developers consider Google to be “good Web Design” simply because it’s, well, simple.
I think there’s a balance between building websites for the lowest common denominator (say, your Grandma’s hamster) and attempting to progress the world of Webs by building things that are just obvious, common knowledge to those of us who care to take the time to figure things out.
For example, if we never built cars because people were too afraid of them to quit riding horses, there would be less glue in the world.
