Another reason to go Accessible

Did you know that building your site to comply with the W3C’s Content Acessibility Guidelines has another hidden benefit? High accessibility overlaps heavily with effective white hat Search Engine Optimisation. Your site will not only be highly spiderable for search engines and accessible to people with disabilities, but it will also be completely accessible to devices that connect to the internet, such as handhelds and cellphones. It’s the way forward. If you’re going to go to a lot of trouble and expense, make sure you build your site to last.

If you need to redesign your site to comply with A, AA or even the strictest AAA Accessibility standards, contact me.

Nathan's Mini Me on the finer points of bathing

Olivia: Okay, time for your bath.
Tristan: No.
O: Yes.
T: No.
O: Yes, every day you need to get a bath. And guess what? You’re going to have one right now.
*dead silence*
T: When I grow up, I’m going to make my own rules.
O: Yep. You can make up new rules every day, just like your dad.
T: And I’ll only have baths every few days. And maybe I won’t bath at all.
O: You can do that if you like, but your girlfriends will think you smell funny, laugh at you and run away.
T: Not if I bath. Then I’ll smell nice.
O: Ahuh. Then they’ll think you’re really handsome.
T: Girls think that anyway.

Cars are Killing Us, Says New York

“A strike by New York City transit workers tomorrow could put ride sharing to the ultimate stress test. The city will reportedly bar any vehicle with less than four passengers (sorry Miata owners) from going through tunnels or over bridges into the city. ” – Wired Magazine

So the bus drivers and subway operators of NYC are striking, and in an effort to prevent mass chaos and the city literally piling up on top of itself, the city has declared that it won’t let any cars with less than four people enter the city.

The Wired Article sums it up, but here’s the full story if anyone’s interested.

'Don't shop at Wal-Mart!' says Jesus

Apparently, the good Lord and I share more in common that merely omnipotence and the ability to turn puppies into snow:

“Wal-Mart critics make shopping choice a religious question”

As the world’s largest retailer, Wal-Mart sets the example for every other business as to how to run a successful store.

Protect the Western Arctic Reserve From Big Oil

The Western Arctic Reserve, also known as the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, is the largest tract of unprotected, relatively pristine public land in the United States. The 23.5 million-acre reserve is home to imperiled polar bears, seabirds and one of the densest populations of nesting raptors in the world. Its shores and lagoons harbor beluga whales, seals, walruses and other marine mammals. The BLM is accepting comments on a planning document that sets the stage for oil and gas leasing in the western Arctic for decades to come. Help save this national treasure by telling the BLM to protect the Western Arctic Reserve from dirty fossil fuel development »
