Russia and China flex their muscles at the West
Russia and China have staged joint war games for the first time in their history.
The eight-day excercise, which involved around 10,000 military personnel and large numbers of ships, submarines and aircraft, began in Vladivostok and ended in the Shandong Peninsula. According to Chinese Maj-Gen Peng Guanglian, its purpose was to “frighten the three evil forces of ethnic separatism, religious extremism and international terrorism”.
Read about it in BBC News and check out the photos.

I don’t think Europe owes us a damned thing for WWII. We jumped in because it was in our own self-interest to do so. Helping to defeat Hitler and liberate Europe was a nice by product. Whether the Allies could have defeated Hitler without American troops, who knows. But I don’t think we need to kid ourselves that our war contribution was altruistic.

As hard as ACNR?

Yeah – it’s funny how quickly those European bastards forget that the US kept them all from speaking German.
And how easily the Germans forget that we did them a HUGE favor by making the word Hamburger so popular…(assuming that hamburger is a german word or a place in germany or they sold one once or something.)
(Personal note: it was very hard writing that comment.)

To answer your question, Nathan, probably only our usual allies, Britain and Australia, although Japan might jump in because they hate & fear the Russians & Chinese. The French would waffle and the Germans would “Achtung” and the others would “harumph” and do sod all. Ultimately, I don’t see a Chinese-Russian alliance lasting. There’s too much bad history.

I thought you meant that Chinese and Russian *males* were flexing their muscles … imagine my disappointment.

I can’t say I don’t shiver a bit when I read this sort of thing. I wonder if Big Red took a swing at US, if anyone would come to help. (Keeping in mind that if the US were to stomp the physically largest and most populated country, those who didn’t come to our aid would be in for “a world of hurtin'”).
No, but I really wonder.
