SKILLSWAP – Free New Media Training by the local webdesign community, for the local webdesign community.
SkillSwap is a voluntary group set up by members of the local web design community and specifically members of the Brighton New Media mailing list.
The idea is that on a semi-regular basis, people from the local new media community volunteer to give up some of their free time to train a small group of their peers in a subject that interests them. The events are intended to allow community members to share skills, help keep training costs down and do a little networking/socialising.
What a clever idea!!!
A surfboard has now been developed that lets surfers surf while surfing. The prototype board has been built by Devon “shaper” Jools Matthews. It houses a laptop, solar panels, and video camera. The world’s first wi-fi board uses a high-speed net connection point – hotspot – positioned on the beach.
Coincidentally PierToPier offers absolutely FREE wifi connectivity on Brighton beach. PierToPier is an experiment in community networking by interested individuals and has been rated by Apple UK as one of the world’s coolest hotspots.

Maggie Taylor is a digital image artist and photographer working in Gainesville, Florida who uses a flatbed scanner in place of a traditional camera.
“This body of work is my attempt to create a dreamlike world inhabited by everyday objects which take on new meanings unique to each viewer.”
Her work is both playful and disturbing.
I’m very dissappointed that LEGO have discontinued their Vision Command robotics camera! I hope its because they are bringing out a better one soon, as the LEGO Robotics Invention System Kit I got Pieter last year isn’t complete without it.
This amazing LEGO rubiks cube solver robot could not have been possible without the cam.
I have found some LEGO Fan based web sites that offer the opportunity to purchase old and discontinued LEGO items:

Elektronik Supersonik Zlad (video)
The tiny Eastern European republic of Molvania was disqualified from the Eurovision Song Contest this year.
Zladko “Zlad” Vladcik was to perform his very popular techno-ballad, “Elektronik – Supersonik” – described as “a melodic fusion combining hot disco rhythms with cold war rhetoric”.
However, the 23-year-old singer was arrested at Istanbul’s Ataturk International Airport and immediately deported. While Eurovision does not normally test for recreational drugs, unfortunately for Vladcik, Turkish Customs do.

Protect the Western Arctic Reserve From Big Oil
The Western Arctic Reserve, also known as the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, is the largest tract of unprotected, relatively pristine public land in the United States. The 23.5 million-acre reserve is home to imperiled polar bears, seabirds and one of the densest populations of nesting raptors in the world. Its shores and lagoons harbor beluga whales, seals, walruses and other marine mammals. The BLM is accepting comments on a planning document that sets the stage for oil and gas leasing in the western Arctic for decades to come. Help save this national treasure by telling the BLM to protect the Western Arctic Reserve from dirty fossil fuel development »
