Chapel Perilous OctopusI couldnt blog anything yesterday because I was busy reskinning Chapel Perilous. It was in desperate need of an overhaul. I think we were all getting a little sick of all that red and black.

Happy new site Bsti and Niq!

The Disasters Emergency Committee
12 UK aid agencies have grouped together to appeal on a nationwide campaign.

Child receiving food and aid in a refugee camp in Darfur, SudanThings are getting really desperate. Despite the constant campaigning there simply haven’t been enough donations coming in. The agencies already know what to do and how to help these people, but haven’t got the money to put their plans into action.

A family mourning the death of a one-year-old child from malnutritionOver a Million adults and children are battling through 45°C+ temperatures and torrential rain to escape the conflict and reach the border safely. They arrive with nothing but the clothes and children on their backs, hoping they will find aid, only to be turned away when there isn’t enough to go around. Masses of children are already dying of diarrhoea due to hunger and sparse contaminated water.

This is really happening! Imagine it was you and your family running into the desert because your home and livestock are burning behind you. Please donate something, even if you can only afford $5 – it all adds up.

There are various ways to help from wherever you are in the world.

Amnesty International’s report:
Sudan: Rape as a weapon of war

“Five to six men would rape us, one after the other, for hours during six days, every night. My husband could not forgive me after this, he disowned me.” ~ Sudanese refugee woman interviewed by Amnesty International.

Sudanese refugeeThe mass rapes ongoing in Darfur are war crimes and crimes against humanity, but very little is being done to stop it.

Amnesty International is therefore calling for:
• All parties to the conflict to stop and publicly condemn the use of rape as a weapon of war and to put adequate mechanisms in place to ensure the protection of civilians.
• The Janjawid militia to be disarmed and disbanded and placed in a position where they may no longer attack the civilian population.
• An international Commission of Inquiry to be established immediately to examine evidence of war crimes, crimes against humanity and other violations of international humanitarian law including rape, as well as allegations of genocide.
• The perpetrators of attacks on civilians, including sexual violence against women, to be brought to justice in trials that meet international standards of fairness. The safety of victims and witnesses must be protected.

There are various ways to take action.

Ken’s latest track is IMO his best ever!!
Use Your Imagination (5MB mp3)

Ken and Ottie“I spent the whole day out in the forest, armed one of jeremys mic’s and the minidisc player… got some interesting sounds of the aeroplanes in the sky, the wind, my crunching footsteps through the fileds, church bells and the small trickling river in the Walkern village…
Ppl thought I was mad as I had these massive headphones on and metres and metres of wires coming out of the minidisc player to the mic’s.

It’s starts off in a typical K&D style and then go’s into some deep house/acid jazzy breaks.

I still need Louise to do so high quality vocal samples for it…and as I have only been working on it for 1 day I’ll probably find something to tweak over the next few days.”

Protect the Western Arctic Reserve From Big Oil

The Western Arctic Reserve, also known as the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, is the largest tract of unprotected, relatively pristine public land in the United States. The 23.5 million-acre reserve is home to imperiled polar bears, seabirds and one of the densest populations of nesting raptors in the world. Its shores and lagoons harbor beluga whales, seals, walruses and other marine mammals. The BLM is accepting comments on a planning document that sets the stage for oil and gas leasing in the western Arctic for decades to come. Help save this national treasure by telling the BLM to protect the Western Arctic Reserve from dirty fossil fuel development »
