headphonesFor the more cultured amongst us, check out Brightonite “soundcard” on mp3.com. Two of his classical tracks, Requimber and Breathing, have made it into the mp3.com charts recently, while Manyara Chill Out was created as a commission for a film.
Well done!!

The WHO is to publish new guidelines today stressing that sugar should form no more than 10% of a person’s diet. And obviously, sugar manufacturers and co disagree, saying that this report is misguided. The Institute of Medicine, part of the US National Academy of Sciences, recommended in September that sugar could make up to 25 percent of calories. The Sugar Association is also not impressed.

25% – Are they mad??

Chapel-Perilous.net
chapel perilousA new domain called for a new design. I still need to test it on obscure browsers and there are a few more tweaks to be done, but it’s ready enough. So take a peek. Great legs to be seen as well as the usual stuff.

Charles Mingus“Good jazz is when the leader jumps on the piano, waves his arms, and yells. Fine jazz is when a tenorman lifts his foot in the air. Great jazz is when he heaves a piercing note for 32 bars and collapses on his hands and knees. A pure genius of jazz is manifested when he and the rest of the orchestra run around the room while the rhythm section grimaces and dances around their instruments.”

Opera is Spyware!?!
Dodgy goings on backstage
OPERA“Now I’m worried. At this point, I no longer trust Opera, and will soon be removing it from all the PC’s I own and influence – and that’s a great lot of PC’s BTW. So Opera folks – unless you can come up with a complete and thorough explanation, you might want to plead insanity, and go open source. For me, that’s the most likely road back to any measure of trust. Today I’ve learned to spell betrayal – O.P.E.R.A.”

Well I say good riddance to bad rubbish!
(thanks for the link vampy)

Patrick MageeA few months ago there was an amazing story on TV about the meeting and process of healing that Jo Tuffnell had to go through with the IRA man who killed her father in the 1984 ‘Brighton Bomb’, Patrick Magee.

The Brighton bomb at the Grand Hotel killed five people and injured 34.“I knew that I had a choice in the days after the bomb: to stay as a victim, blaming others for my pain, or to go on a journey in search of healing and understanding. I made an inner commitment to the journey with no idea what that meant, but I knew that life would give me the experiences I needed to learn from.”

Tomorrow morning BBC Radio 2 will broadcast a conversation between the two of them. The 45 minute conversation will be part of Don Maclean’s ‘Good Morning Sunday’ programme between 7am-9am, with Jo and Pat’s contribution probably starting around 8am. The conversation can also be listened to on the Radio 2 website through next week. (Click on ‘Listen Again’)

Protect the Western Arctic Reserve From Big Oil

The Western Arctic Reserve, also known as the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, is the largest tract of unprotected, relatively pristine public land in the United States. The 23.5 million-acre reserve is home to imperiled polar bears, seabirds and one of the densest populations of nesting raptors in the world. Its shores and lagoons harbor beluga whales, seals, walruses and other marine mammals. The BLM is accepting comments on a planning document that sets the stage for oil and gas leasing in the western Arctic for decades to come. Help save this national treasure by telling the BLM to protect the Western Arctic Reserve from dirty fossil fuel development »
